HANEUL travel essentials · first trip to Korea

Six things to set up before your first day in Korea.

A calm first-day checklist for arriving, paying, finding your way, and changing plans when the weather does. It is deliberately practical: save the official links, then make the final call on the day you travel.

01

Decide your first ride before you land

For Seoul, choose based on your hotel location, luggage, and arrival time: AREX for rail connections, an airport limousine when your hotel is near a stop, or an official taxi stand for a direct late-night ride. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are separate, so check your flight terminal before leaving arrivals.

Get online before you need a map

A working data connection makes your first hour much easier: maps, translation, hotel messages, and taxi booking all depend on it. Check that your phone supports eSIM, then read the plan’s data limit and validity period before purchase. Airport Wi-Fi is useful as a backup, not a whole-trip plan.

Carry one transit option and a small cash backup

Tmoney and EZL are rechargeable cards used across public transport. Visitor-focused alternatives such as WOWPASS combine payment and transit features, but each product has its own purchase, top-up, refund, and coverage rules. Do not assume every machine or local bus accepts every foreign card—keep a little Korean won for the first day.

Save places in Korean, not only English

A Korean place name is often the simplest thing to show a driver or search in a local map. HANEUL keeps a Korean taxi address on destination pages; copy it before you leave Wi-Fi. For routes, station exits, and live local search, open Naver Map and check the route again on the day.

Check the outdoor plan on the same day

Coastal walks, cable cars, drone shows, and viewpoints can change with rain, wind, or safety notices. Check weather and air quality, then open the official venue notice before committing to a long trip. HANEUL’s destination pages show a quick live-conditions panel for this reason.

Keep the official help number handy

For travel questions, language help, or directions, Korea’s 1330 Travel Helpline is the official starting point. It is not a substitute for emergency services: use 112 for police emergencies and 119 for urgent medical, fire, or rescue help.

The smallest useful plan: connection, address, first ride.

You do not need to solve every part of a Korea trip before boarding. Save your hotel’s Korean address, choose a connectivity option, and know how you will leave the airport. The rest is easier once you are connected and moving.
