Busan · A temple where sea meets stone

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple

A coastal Buddhist temple in Gijang where tiled roofs, rocky shoreline and the open sea appear together after a descent through the grounds. The route is rewarding but not flat: allow time for the 108 stairs and pause rather than trying to rush every viewpoint.

A considerate tip

“Arrive with shoes that grip well, particularly after rain, and keep your voice low in worship areas. Visit Busan asks visitors to use the side doors of the Buddhist sanctuary—the front door is for monks—and to arrange shoes neatly. Early or late visits can be calmer, but hours and final entry should always be checked on the official page before leaving.”

Plan around last entry and the final transfer

The temple is listed open daily 04:30–19:20, with entry until 18:50. For sunrise or a late visit, plan to reach the grounds before the entry cutoff, not merely before closing.

From Osiria, the official route involves a bus and about a 15-minute walk from the stop; steps and uneven paths are part of the visit. Consider your group’s walking needs and return transport when planning for the sea views.
